Starbucks International

Universal Marketing Case1-1: Starbucks-Going Global Fast Q1) Identify the controllable and wild components that Starbucks has experienced in entering worldwide markets. A1) There are a few controllable and wild components that Starbucks has experienced in entering the worldwide market. In the first place, a portion of the controllable components are to some degree like them developing in the local market. A portion of the elements incorporate the 4 P’s (Product, Price, Placement and Promotion).Starbucks has the upside of being a worldwide brand-it is perceived by millions around the globe and is along these lines ready to advertise as per its worth. Furthermore, Starbucks can undoubtedly conform to the diverse social sets and move their costs as per the rivals in the locale (without making a big deal about an effect on their benefit). Because of being a worldwide brand, Starbucks can showcase themselves as they wish to also. A suitable model would be the espresso in Italy-whic h is generally less expensive than Starbucks normal coffee. An coffee in Northern Italy is around 67 pennies while in the south it can fall near 55 pennies. In the interim, Americans pay around $1. 50 for their coffee for such explanation, Starbucks would need to bring down the costs in the event that they wish to enter the Italian market for the straightforward motivation to have the option to contend in such a situation essentially returning to the point of controlling their costs as their rivals do. Starbucks have confronted wild components also for the most part to do with remote markets. To start with are the issues that the brand may confront attempting to adjust among household and worldwide markets. There are a few unique components of hazard that they face when entering a remote market, for example, serious powers, innovation levels, dispersion structures, the nation’s foundation and different powers that include such a social, political and lawful. Every one of these components connect to how Starbucks maintains its business in a universal market. Moreover, as Starbucks keeps on extending, it should be progressively touchy to social difficulties. One model could be Starbucks confronting grave difficulties with Japan’s ‘chilled coffee’ showcase with numerous copies matching with the corporate brand making it increasingly hard for them to contend abroad. Being a worldwide brand, Starbucks has aced their abilities to grow to other global markets-as long as they hold under tight restraints their controllable components and attempt and resolve the wild ones.Q2) What are the significant wellsprings of hazard confronting the organization? Talk about possible arrangements. A2) Being such a significant global brand-Starbucks is probably going to confront certain dangers. Regardless, Starbucks has figured out how to immerse a large portion of its market in United States. As indicated by sources, there is a Starbucks for each 9,400 indiv iduals in Seattle. Covering zones with their stores isn't really a bit of leeway for Starbucks, it has even prompted shoppers being baffled with the low degree of decision and causing an incredible abhorrence towards the worldwide brand all together.Another chance confronting Starbucks is the new, more youthful age. Today’s 20 and mid multi year old buyers are not prepared to address the significant expenses for their day by day espresso. Because of the downturn, a lot of this age was raised on less expensive brands, for example, McDonald’s McCafe, and is probably not going to move to Starbucks or some other significant brand even once downturn has worn off. Purchaser dangers are not by any means the only ones upsetting Starbucks-the worldwide brand additionally faces inward issues with worker wear out rate expanding over the years.Dissatisfaction over being over worked and come up short on is beginning to get interchangeable with the Starbucks name causing disappointe d senior supervisors and a higher level of representative turnover. A case of this interior hazard was the point at which a claim caused Starbucks a decent $18 million, leaving them with diminished benefit share. Experts express that Starbucks can just keep up about 15% area development in the United States, for just around two additional years. From that point onward, it should rely forcefully upon abroad development to keep up their yearly 20% income growth.Expansion and cannibalization chance is likewise another component. Extending at such an extraordinary rate with a steady development in stores far and wide have seen to cause some major social issues too, for instance Italy being undermined from changing their ways of life of drinking espresso all together. Arrangements: Advertising efforts and positive open mindfulness could help improve their worldwide picture. Starbucks ought to being concentrating on International extension as opposed to soaking their local market-the more individuals they contact, the more the brand is probably going to endure and make a profit.Having such a global picture can have an impediment too Starbucks could figure out how to adjust to more social contrasts and necessities as opposed to focusing on advancing their local picture universally also. Through advancement and promoting Starbucks should start to move their intended interest group; the more youthful age is a key component to their item life cycle-however re-situating their items and concentrating on the Middle class of today, Starbucks could discover an answer inside and keep on developing for quite a long time to come.Market exploration could be another arrangement that Starbucks can investigate. By making Global Strategies, achievement can be accomplished by embellishment as indicated by the country’s culture and conviction and by presenting items that are bound to be acknowledged by individuals from various zones of the world. A specific sort of showcasing i s probably not going to speak to a crowd of people from everywhere throughout the world-Starbucks should be adaptable enough to make their picture as per an alternate culture each time. The sentiment of disappointment from the representatives of Starbucks ought to be settled. This arrangement can be accomplished by offering after some time installment or motivating force for each representative as long as Starbucks is eager to deal with its kin, worker turnover will probably lessen and their inward mechanics will run easily hence making them lucidity take a gander at other significant issues, for example, universal advertising and expansion.Q3) Critique Starbucks generally Corporate Strategy A3) For the situation of Starbucks, the corporate procedure that they have actualized is one of a kind to their industry which has permitted them to stand separated from their significant rivals. It tends to be summed up in the blink of an eye Starbucks plans to give quality espresso any place th ey go.One of their techniques would be vertical joining, by having a cozy relationship from the beginning to the completion of their item by having their own flexibly chain and cooking their own espresso Quality is one key component that Starbucks has never settled on ( and from its vibes, will be reluctant to do as such sooner rather than later too) Modification of their items is another way Starbucks handles it system, by targeting collaborating with other effective brands and going for items that they can likewise sell in stores separated from their chain’s and concentrating on different administrations they give, for example, pre request, Wi-Fi and banding together with the film and music industry. Indeed, even without spending a ton on worldwide notice, Starbucks tries to remain in the spotlight, by settling on the correct choices to cooperate with organizations that are speaking to their general shopper base.In expansion, Starbucks has started to focus on the more youth ful age (that is probably going to wander from the more extravagant quality espresso) by boosting different administrations they give. Rather than capitulating to the lower value request, Starbucks has increased their different administrations and started publicizing as needs be and straightforwardly focusing on the new generation’s buyer base. It is likely additionally worth referencing how Starbucks has still figured out how to follow the standard thing, ordinary extension normal too. They started by focusing on their residential market forcefully and once this had been immersed and grown totally, the association started expanding their quality globally. As indicated by the Starbucks yearly report in 2009, their global market developed by a quick 7. 7% in 2009.Overall, Starbucks targets developing globally, by utilizing different sources separated from the standard generalizations, and yet, Starbucks means to keep its balance in their local market as solid as they have been since the initiation itself. Q4) How may Starbucks improve benefit in Japan? A4) Due to the elevated level of rivalry that Starbucks faces in Japan, it should start by rethinking their evaluating methodology. The vast majority of Japan despite everything accepts that Starbucks is somewhat overrated, and since there are such a large number of various contenders, it is a simple choice for the shopper in Japan to pick another brand-dependent on the lower price. They could start by bringing down their costs marginally, where they would at present make a benefit, yet would fall inside the scope of different contenders so more customers would probably pick Starbucks-for the most part because of the incredible nature of item (and now better cost also) Another technique that Starbucks could utilize is repositioning their item and administration in Japan. As indicated by sources, Japanese youth is bound to invest their energy in a valuable way. Due to Starbucks and the rivals in Japan giving comparative charge, it is simple for the contender to gobble up the Starbucks share, consequently it would be perfect for the worldwide brand to expand their advantages (or diminish value further). One advantage could be presenting the online request framework in Japan, so Japanese shoppers could pre request web based, sparing them time and utilizing this advantage over different contenders. By publicizing with the household marks in Japan, Starbucks might cause itself equal with Japan’s youth-where they to feel slanted to have Starbucks rather if contender espresso in light of the fact that thei

Women Stereotyping - Free Essay Example

The media misleads reality by forming and reinforcing gender stereotypes. Women are subjugated by being portrayed into categories like sex objects, victims and or dependents of society. We live in a world full of discrimination. People (men and women) are categorized and judged based on who they are. Both genders are victims of this act but men are often favorited more than women are. Men are praised for many things that women would be criticized for doing. Women are often underestimated in many things that men are praised for and also classified as the weak sex. Men are implied as the cultural standard. Women are looked as unimportant or invisible. Regardless of age or tenure, females face these scenarios almost every day. This is called sexism. Lets talk gender roles in magazines and ads. After doing some research, 78% of the covers of magazines are regarding women bodily appearance, weight loss, dietary habits etc. The point of these weight-related messages are to tell the women who are discriminated as big or fat that being skinny or slim is the key to having a better life. Womens magazines focus on improving ones life by changing their appearance. Instead of being supportive, why do we have to discriminate? Some men also made negative comments towards heavier women. One big thing is the target audience for all this discrimination towards women which is called social media, also known as the big stage. Instagram, Snapchat, Periscope, Music.ly, Facebook etc. are some examples. People use these apps/websites to say whatever they want behind a profile. People that make judgements or say things can put an influence on others viewing and they would think its acceptable to bash others. What about the magazines with men on the covers? I asked myself. After surfing the web some more, I saw magazine covers with men that targeted their hair, perfume launches, clothing lines etc. Mens magazines focus on hobbies, expanding knowledge and other activities. I recently read an article called Young Women Learn Harmful Gender Stereotypes from Reality Tv. They mentioned the famous tv show called The Bachelor. This is based on a woman who chooses a man among multiple men. The man must match her needs and wants she expect. When the woman chooses the man, its now his turn to say whether he wants this woman or not. I think its unfair because its basically a choice being made based on how the woman looks. This world is a male-dominated culture. Some people assume that doctors and pilots can be a man job. Men are featured nearly as twice as women are on television. Women are more featured in music videos and more sexually-related programs. Some people assume that doctors and pilots c an be a man job. The development of identity towards women and female adolescents in magazines, reality tv shows or even tv commercials portray the female gender unfairly. They show unrealistic beauty norms. Most of these people are photo shopped onto images and the media and are claimed to be flawless. The word flawless is used to paint a picture about women and it tells that they are only beautiful if they look a certain way. Perfect. Other women may feel insecure when they see things like that, causing them to have a low self-esteem. Having a low self-esteem can do a lot of damaging to ones life. People harm their selves or even end up killing themselves. Instead of helping to prevent problems like this, the media is creating it. There needs to a stop to grouping women and teen girls based on how they look, how rich they are and or what they wear. Why do we have to categorize? In some countries around the world, women are not respected as much. For instance, Japan. Women in Japan are not treated equally and do not have the opportunity as other women do around the world. In Japan men have essential roles just because of who they are, males. Women arent allowed to have a job if they have a family (husband and kids) and are expected to stay at home and maintain the household and the children. Why cant a woman have a job? Why cant women do what a man does in Japan? We need answers to these questions and unfair treatments. There are other women who are also unfairly treated in other countries. They want to speak out but why cant they have a voice and rights? Where are women rights in other countries? Women are judged too much and need to have choices and rights like men do. Men are favored more than women are. Lets talk culture and status. We have yet to elect a female president. Why? Is women not empowered enough to run a country? Women are paid less than men are for similar jobs. In video games, women are weaker and significantly more helpless. Women characters are sexually provocative than male characters and are less aggressive. Typical video games do not include a female character. Women are always given a weaker position. What are we teaching our fellow younger ones looking on? What examples are we teaching them? What problems are we causing? What are we supporting? These are all questions I think needs to be answered by the media. The things they portray is no help to the society. Its selfish. If a younger woman marries/dates an older man she is often classified as a gold-digger. Some may caricature women as a nag or even Jezebels. Women are looked at as prostitutes when they wear certain clothes or look a certain way. There are so many labels that are placed against a woman for being whom she is, how she looks, her skin color, the way she dresses etc. These types of judgments made to a woman can negatively affect her. For example women can become very emotional. Much research has shown that women experience more stress and anxiety than men due to stereotyping. We need to prevent it. In my opinion, protests now-a-days barely solve any problem(s) caused. I look at it as a legal opportunity to speak your mind with a group of people who agree with you, while holding posters or signs. I do not see it stopping the media from influencing the wrong activities that they paint on society because of money or fame. So many people who work for these companies that delineate stereotyping against women are brainwashed by the money that they are offered. The negative stereotypes against females affect their ability to attain their potential by limiting choices and opportunities on their behalf. We need to recognize how important this issue is and that it matters. The good news is that there are multiple ways to address to society, the problems occurring and what the media is causing. We need to put our thoughts into action and make it come to an end. It is a disgrace that women are treated unfairly and have to experience the feeling of being insecure because the person who they are is not accepted rightfully. So many natural talents and abilities are limited; educational and professional experiences and opportunities in life. I can go on and on about the impacts on womens lives dues the stereotyping but how can we prevent women from feeling discouraged in situations like these in the work place, school or even in public. How can we try to limit women stereotypes around the world? Well of course, not everyone agrees but, women also deserve rights in every country around the world. Creating groups to speak in the public, community centers and on social media can be a start. Anything is possible so why not have a protest so others who also agree can be aware and start something too. Writing letters to congress and to the media explaining how bad discrimination is and to give women their own rights is also a great idea. Women also need to stand strong and know their grounds. Every woman is not the same and may not take being stereotyped lightly. Some may become emotional about it, furious about it while some may not care. Ladies! Separate yourself from the stigma by reminding yourself who you are, what your abilities are, how strong you are and reflect on your achievements every time you are encounter a position like this. Finding humor in difficult situations like these is also a good idea. It is good t o maintain a positive attitude even when things are not right. Talk to yourself and have positive thoughts every day. This trains your mind and who you are to believe that you are strong and nobody or nothing can change your mind. Point out what you think is not right. Whether it is happening at school, a meeting, your workplace or in public, speak for those who do not have a voice. Help one another; after all we are one team. It is important to bring to attention the poor habits contributing to women stereotyping when you witness it, you may start a change in behaviors. Keeping a communication going on can help others realize the impacts of gender biases. We need to get women on board to participate in activities that men usually are a part of. Include women in more jobs. I think that training employees to avoid discrimination can be a big start in the environment. Women stereotyping may not come to a complete end because it is always going to be an ongoing problem due to someone feeling as though women should always be treated as though they do not have a say in anything. The way the media portrays this biasness it reflects on children which causes them to view their gender a certain way. There may not be a definite way to end the discrimination against women but there are ways that can convince the world to have equal treatment step by step.

The Military Is Very Strict, Routined, And Confidential Essay

Life in the military is very strict, routined-based, and confidential. Once you have lived and witnessed this lifestyle, it becomes a part of you all throughout your life. Even after getting out, those past memories still stays with you as you try to live a more civilized life. James, a twenty-eight year old former Army soldier had just recently gotten out of the Army six months ago back in April of 2016. Through his story, I was able to find out what an ex military soldier actually felt about his career and how he is coping with a new lifestyle. To begin my interview, I asked James about his decision to enter the Army and his backgrounds. His family lived in Chicago, Illinois where his American father was from. His mother, who was from the Philippines, always took him and his brothers to visit, and when he was in middle school, he decided to stay and go to school there, but he went back to the United States for high school. I found out that his grandfather was an Army veteran who ha d served the country during World War II. â€Å"I wanted to follow in his footsteps. It was a of repaying the country for what it’s done for my family.† The process to get in the Army was long. During his senior of high school, in 2005, was when he became serious about becoming an Army soldier. He was able to talk to a recruiting personnel at his school who was also the one who took him through the Military Entrance Processing Station or MEPS. That was where he also had to take the Armed Services

Commercially Available Testing Tools Free Essays

Once an application has been developed, the developers must demonstrate that it performs the tasks for which it was designed accurately, reliably and with adequate performance. For this to be fulfilled extensive testing must be carried out and tools have been built to assist with this process. Developers have built different types of tool for addressing different aspects of the same general problem. We will write a custom essay sample on Commercially Available Testing Tools or any similar topic only for you Order Now The importance of proper testing to detect as many errors as feasibly possible has been driven by the increase of malicious or criminal intent on the part of developers that produce applications with functions that facilitate fraud or other criminal activity (an especial risk to the financial industry). This problem has been addressed by European Community Legislation, increasing the onus on software developers to show that they took all reasonable steps to ensure an application was free of defects and suitable for the purpose for which it was developed. Failure to do so could leave the developer liable to be sued by anyone have has incurred a loss in any business as a result of software collapse. The main types of tool that have resulted as a partial result of this are described below. There are a large number of testing tools that are available, but they all work in very different ways. The main types of testing categories are described below. Tools that analyse source code without executing test cases, but in deriving test cases for the software to be tested. There are three different types used in industry that are described below: Code based testing tools accept source code as input and perform a number of analyses that result in the generation of test cases. This type of automated tool can broken down in to four further categories. The first are Code analysers that evaluate test modules automatically for proper syntax; statements are then highlighted where the syntax is wrong, if construction is error prone or if an item is undefined. The second category is Structure checkers where modules are submitted as input and a graph generated, depicting the hierarchy of modules and tools check for structural flaws, for example, determining the location of loops and branches and how they are used within the system. The third type are Data analysers which review data structures, data declarations and module interfaces, and notes improper linkage between modules, conflicting data definitions and illegal data usage. The final type are Sequence checkers where sequences of events are checked and marked if coded in wrong sequence. Specialised testing languages enable a software engineer to write detailed test specifications that describe each test case and the logistics for its execution. An example of one of these languages is Prolog, that is specifically used for test case generation. Requirements based testing tools isolate specific user requirements and suggest test cases (or classes of tests) that will exercise the requirements. Tools that analyse source code during execution of test cases by interacting with a program as it is executing and checking the path coverage, test assertions about the value of specific variables and otherwise instrumenting the execution flow of the program. They can be either intrusive or non-intrusive. An intrusive tool changes the software to be tested by inserting extra instructions or ‘probes† that perform the activities mentioned above. A non-intrusive tool uses a separate hardware processor that runs in parallel with the processor containing the program that is being tested. Systems can be difficult to test because several parallel operations are being carried out concurrently, which is especially true for real-time systems. Therefore it is difficult to anticipate the conditions and generate representative test conditions. However, dynamic test tools can capture a state of events during the execution of a program and so are often called program monitors, because they watch and report the behaviour of the program. The functions of the monitor are to list the number of times a submodule is called or a line of code is executed. These statistics tell testers if the test cases have statement coverage. Another function is to report on whether a decision point has branched in all directions, providing information about branch coverage. System performance information is also provided, including statistics about particular variables e. g. their first value, last value, minimum and maximum values. Breakpoints can be defined for the system, so when a variable attains or exceeds a specific value, the test tool reports the occurrence. Some tools will stop when breakpoints are reached so that the tester can examine the contents of memory or specific data items, as it is possible to change values as the test progresses. Any information captured during the test can be used to provide information about control flow. Another automated tool, analysers, are similar to monitors, except that they can also evaluate captured data to prescribed criteria. A test coverage analyser records the number of each statement executed during a test step and notifies us if certain routines or statements are not executed. A timing analyser works with predefined areas or memory or code and tracks the amount of time spent in each area as system functions are performed. This type of tracking can be useful during performance testing when timing requirements are checked. Tools that simulate functions of hardware or other externals by presenting to a system all characteristics of a system or device without actually having the system/device available. This is particularly useful if another company is developing part of a system; this part can be simulated to allow you to test your own part. The simulator can sometimes be more useful than the device itself as all data regarding the devices’ state throughout the test can be stored, aiding in error location. Simulators also help with stress and volume testing, since it can be programmed to load the system with substantial amounts of data, requests or users. Generally, simulators give control over the test conditions, allowing you to perform tests that may otherwise be dangerous or impossible. Test management tools are used to control and co-ordinate testing for each of the major testing steps. Tools in this category manage and co-ordinate regression testing, perform comparisons that ascertain differences between actual and expected output and conduct batch testing of programs with interactive human-computer interfaces. In addition to the functions noted above, many test management tools also serve as generic test drivers. A test driver reads one or more test cases from a testing file, formats the test data to conform to the needs of the software under test, and then invokes the software to be tested. The C/S environment demands specialised testing tools that exercise the graphical user interface and the network communications requirements for client and server. This category can be sub-divided into the following functions: Reverse engineering to specification tools which take source code as input and generate graphical structured analysis and design models, ‘where-used’ lists and other design information. Code restructuring and analysis tools that analyse program syntax, generate a control flow graph and automatically generate a structured program. On-line system reengineering tools which are used to modify on-line database systems. Many of the above tools are limited to specific programming languages, although most major languages are addressed and require some degree of interaction with the software engineer. Next generation reverse and forward engineering tools will make much stronger use of artificial intelligence techniques, applying a knowledge base that is application domain specific, i. e. a set of decomposition rules that would apply to all programs in a particular application area. The AI component will assist in system decomposition and reconstruction, but will still require interaction with a software engineer throughout the reengineering cycle. Several testing aids can be combined into one automated tool; a test harness is a monitoring system that tracks test input data, passes it to the program or system being tested and records the resulting output. A test harness can also compare actual with expected output and report any discrepancies. Most test harness tools are environment specific by the nature of the process. Test data set generators can generate test data sets derived from the requirements modelling process. Used in conjunction with test harnesses they will provide a formal documented test environment. In most cases a combination of the above tools will improve chances that a delivered application performs the tasks expected correctly and reliably. All testing tools generate large amounts of information about an applications structure. This information must be interpreted and used to detect and rectify subtle logic and structure error. There is a large amount of interest in producing automated support for this interpretation process; to pinpoint possible problem areas and suggest further lines of investigation. With the exception of Interpreters, that are still in development, the above categories of testing tools are available commercially. There are a large number of products available produced by many different companies, so two case studies have been selected to give an impression of the testing tools commercially available. Where possible, the category of testing tools as described above that each product fits into has been added in brackets after the product name. The current products available from this French company are aimed at user interface testing and there are three product lines. The first, UniTest, is designed to perform unit testing of embedded systems. It can develop test scripts that can run on native, simulator, emulator or target platforms. ATTOL’s second product, SystemTest, automates the production and exploitation of integration and validation tests for systems. Both of these two products can be integrated with ATTOL’s final product, Coverage (test coverage analyser), which is a code coverage tool that is designed to obtain the level of code coverage during the unit or integration testing. TestStudio is one of four products that make up the software development product, Rational Suite. The TestStudio product is itself made up of other Rational Products. Rational Robot provides thorough testing of an entire application, Rational TestFactory automatically detects run-time errors without user assistance and generates optimal scripts for regression testing. Rational Purify locates hard-to-find run-time errors that cause program crashes. Rational Quantify pinpoints performance ‘bottlenecks’ in applications and Rational PureCoverage (test coverage analyser) identifies untested code and provides code-coverage analysis. The nature of many products available is that they perform testing to meet user requirements. To do this they are often a combination of several types of testing tool, which makes it difficult to identify specific categories of testing. However, many of the products available did require the system or application being tested to actually be run, whether on a simulator or real-time, suggesting dynamic testing is used more than static testing. There are however, a huge range of testing tools commercially available, combining many different testing methods. How to cite Commercially Available Testing Tools, Essay examples

Progression Towards Light Essay Example For Students

Progression Towards Light Essay Progression Towards LightAeschylus use of darkness and light as a consistent image in theOresteia depicts a progression from evil to goodness, disorder to order. In theOresteia, there exists a situation among mortals which has gotten out ofcontrol; a cycle of death has arisen in the house of Atreus. There also existsa divine disorder within the story which, as the situation of the mortals, mustbe brought to resolution: the Furies, an older generation of gods, are inconflict with the younger Olympian gods because they have been refused theirancient right to avenge murders between members of the same family. TheOresteia presents two parallel conflicts, both of which must be resolved ifharmony is ever to be desired again. As one can expect, these conflictseventually do find their resolutions, and the images of darkness and lightaccompany this progression, thereby emphasizing the movement from evil to good. The use of darkness imagery first emerges in the Agamemnon. In thisfirst play of the trilogy, the cycle of death which began with the murder andconsumption of Thyestes children continues with Clytaemestras murder ofAgamemnon and Cassandra. The darkness which is present in the beginning of thestory is further magnified by the death of Agamemnon. This is illustrated whenClytaemestra says, Thus he Agamemnon went down, and the life struggled outof him; and as he died he spattered me with the dark red and violent drivenrain of bitter savored blood (lines 1388-1390). Clytaemestra has evilly andmaliciously murdered her own husband; thus the image of the dark blood. Thedarkness is representative of the evil which has permeated the house of Atreus, and which has persisted with this latest gruesome act of murder. Becausedarkness results from the death of Agamemnon, Aeschylus clearly illustrates thatthis murder was nothing but pure evil. As long as this type of evil continuesto be practiced in t he house of Atreus, darkness will continue to emerge. TheOresteia has not yet seen the light. The beginning of the progression from darkness to light can initially beseen in the second play of the trilogy, The Libation Bearers. Orestes is theembodiment of this light, a beacon signalling a possible end in the evil thathas infected the house of Atreus. It is true that Orestes, in revenge forAgamemnon, kills his mother Clytaemestra. Yet the darkness that is expectedfrom such a murder, a matricide, is negated by one of the main reasons thatOrestes commits the murder: his fear of the wrath of Apollo, who has orderedhim to commit the deadly act. Aeschylus provides Orestes with a justificationfor his action in the form of the oracle from Apollo. For not only doesOrestes murder of his mother fail to differ greatly from Clytaemestras murderof Agamemnon, but it can in fact be seen as a worse crime because of the bloodties. Therefore, in order to convincingly prove his assertion that Orestes isjustified in killing his mother, Aeschylus must include the order from Apollo, who by no mere c oincidence is the god of light. With the divine support of thelight god on his side, Orestes is the beginning of the progressive illuminationtowards goodness and order in the Oresteia. Another example of Orestes introduction of light into a story ofdarkness occurs later in The Libation Bearers. The chorus is describing thedream that Clytaemestra has had of giving birth to a snake, which representsOrestes. The chorus sings of Clytaemestras fear as she awakens from thenightmare: She woke screaming out of her sleep, shaky with fear, as torcheskindled all about the house, out of the blind dark that had been on them (lines535-537). Aeschylus describes the house of Clytaemestra, the rightful house ofAtreus and the Atridae, as dark; this darkness has been caused by none otherthan her own murderous deeds. She has dreamt of the coming of her son Orestesto avenge his father, and the torches that light up the house signal this coming. .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 , .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .postImageUrl , .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 , .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439:hover , .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439:visited , .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439:active { border:0!important; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439:active , .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439 .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u642490f51172011e777de1bc31d84439:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Religion7 EssayClearly, Orestes is the man who will restore light to the house of Atreus. Orestes is looked upon by those characters sympathetic to his plight(namely Electra and the chorus of The Libation Bearers) as the light which willbring an end to the evil in the house of Atreus. Soon after Orestes reveals hisidentity to his sister, he proclaims that he will avenge his fathers murder. The chorus, who represent the subjects of the late Agamemnon, express theirgratitude for Orestes decision when they say, But when strength came back hopelifted me again, and the sorrow was gone and the light was on me (lines 415-417). Orestes arrival and his resolution to make his mother pay for her crimesilluminates the darkness which Clytaemestra has brought upon the royal house;the chorus, in proclaiming that the light is on them, recognize that Orestes isthe man who will achieve this illumination. Electra also recognizes thatOrestes will bring good to an evil situation: O bright beloved presence, youbring back four lives to me (lines 238-239). Orestes presence brightens thedark, gloomy state of mind of Electra just as it brightens the dark, gloomysituation in the house of Atreus. Following the murder of Clytaemestra and Aegisthus at the hands ofOrestes, light is finally restored to the conflict within the mortal house ofAtreus. Orestes has fulfilled the oracle imposed upon him by Apollo, and thedarkness, the evil of Clytaemestra, has been defeated. In reference to thisdefeat, the chorus proclaims, Light is here to behold. The big hit that heldour house is taken away (lines 961-962). The disorder and darkness that hadreigned in the house of Atreus exists no longer; Orestes has given his familyillumination. The evil darkness has been overcome by the good light. Another way in which Aeschylus manifests the imagery of light anddarkness is through the conflict between the Olympic and Chthonic gods. TheOlympic gods are represented in the Oresteia by Apollo and Athene. Aeschylusties together the ideas of justice and reason, Athenes domain, with the idea oflight, of which Apollo is god. By contrast, the black clad Chthonic gods, theFuries, tie together the idea of darkness with the idea of bloody revenge, whichis their area of specialization. In the Eumenides, Pythia says of the Furies, They are black and utterly repulsive, and they snore with breath that drives oneback (lines 52-53). The contrast between the two different races of gods setsup Aeschylus second progression from darkness to light in the Oresteia. The Furies are at first incapable of treating Orestes with the justicethat he deserves. They do not take into account the circumstances under whichOrestes killed his mother, specifically the pressure which he had received fromApollo. Therefore, the Furies are at first enraged that Athene allows Orestesto escape their dark and bloody vengeance. Eventually, however, the Furieshate begins to subside and they accept the arbitration of Athene, who offersthem land and honor in Athens. This acceptance marks the beginning of theirmovement from darkness to light. They embrace the just attitude of the Olympicgods Apollo and Athene, progressing from a doctrine of bloody revenge to one ofreason and justice. The light images emerge along with this progression, andthe Furies proclaim near the end of the Eumenides: So with forecast of good Ispeak this prayer for them the citizens of Athens that the suns brightmagnificence shall break out wave on wave of all the happiness life can give ,across their land (lines 921-925). The Chthonic gods have given up their darkways and have called for light. This light image is also manifested in thegarments that the Furies change into at the end of the Eumenides: where theyhad previously worn black robes, they now wear bright crimson robes. Nowcalling themselves the Eumenides, or Benevolent Ones, these gods have progressedfrom symbols of evil darkness into symbols of bright goodness. .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 , .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .postImageUrl , .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 , .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278:hover , .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278:visited , .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278:active { border:0!important; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278:active , .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278 .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub196ec44f81f61d8a06dab105298a278:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Madness and Insanity in Shakespeare's Hamlet - Hamlet's Madness EssayIn his trilogy the Oresteia, Aeschylus use of darkness and lightimagery coincides with his progression of themes. Orestes, who represents light, brings and end to the vicious cycle of dark death continued by Clytaemestra. Heilluminates the dark evil in the house of Atreus. Likewise, Athene and Apollobring the Furies out of their dark, blood-lusting ways and into an order ofjustice and reason, transforming them into the brightly clad Benevolent Ones. In the end, goodness prevails over evil just as light conquers darkness. Aeschylus effectively makes use of his images to emphasize this movement.

Social Scholarship Essays - Sociology, Teenage Pregnancy

Social Scholarship As I have matured as a student and a scholar it has become more clear to me that in today's society with all it's talk of multi-culturalism and melting pot rhetoric it is blatantly clear that much of the discourse regarding the social world is rooted in Euro-centric research and ideology. As such, I content that it is the role of the African American sociologist to shift the center of analysis from a European focus to one that is inclusive of all people represented in this society. This can only be achieved by giving voice to those whose experiences have been traditional marginalized in the discourse concerning the social world. A fifteen-year-old girl finds out that she is pregnant. Although she and her boyfriend have been together since she was thirteen, she is afraid she will lose him if she tells him. She feels as if she has finally found someone to love. This man loves her more than the men in her family who sexually abused her did. He loves her more than her father who is never home. Despite her fear, and because of that love, she tells him. He is seventeen and afraid of fatherhood. After all, he never had a father. What was he going to be able to impart to the new life he had created? How would he be able to teach a daughter how to demand respect from a man when he was not certain if respected women? How would he teach manhood to a son when he was still a boy himself? These questions and more raged through his head. All of Nevertheless, he knew what he must do. He would marry her After all, he did love her or so he thought and besides it was the right thing to do. This couple bore a son born with mental and physically disabilities. They became married at the age of sixteen and eighteen. One year later, they had a second child. The girl quit high school in ninth grade and the boy joined the military. However, the pressures of life began to weigh heavily on them and the both turned to drug use. The military would have none of that and the boy was demoted and stopped using drugs. Unfortunately, with the pressures of being a wife and mother weighing on her restless soul, the girl was unable to stop and her use turned into a crippling addiction. After thirteen years of marriage the boy and girl, know man and woman, divorced. Their lives changed irreconcilably forever addiction. Various aspects of this story play out everyday in families across the country. This story could be anyone's tale but it is specifically the story of my parents. I have seen and experienced first hand the detriment that issues of teen pregnancy, drug use, sexual abuse and disability can have not, only on society as a whole but on individual families. It has been this exposure that has fueled my intellectual growth and strengthened my desire to add to the much-needed discourse of the African American family in Black sociology. Sociology has allowed me to view my life experiences through a critical scholarly lens. This discipline has allowed me to see the internal connection between my experiences and the larger social world. My life has been a testament to the need to have African Americans who are trained in this discipline and are able to put forth a framework by which to view our social issues without victim blaming ideologies. It is for this reason that my interests have been prop elled toward African American sociology. My experiences as an African American woman has shaped and molded my philosophies and beliefs about my particular role as a black sociologist. It has been my experience that each interaction, connection, and moment in one's life is a brick. The collection of those bricks eventually builds the houses in which our souls will dwell. As human beings, either we can place those bricks in a position that yields strength and endurance for this house or we can place them haphazardly in a formation that does not support or maintain the house. It is how we decide to build our house that inevitably determines

The Hobbit essays

The Hobbit essays The story is told in the past tense. It takes place in various locations in the imaginary world of Middle-Earth during the third age of Middle-Earth between 2941-2942. The story is narrated in the third person, almost completely from Bilbos point of view. Bilbo is the main character. The narration is omniscient. This means that the narrator not only relates Bilbos thoughts and feelings but comments on them as well. Bilbo Baggins lives a quiet, peaceful life in his comfortable hole at Bag End. He lives in a hole because he is a hobbit. Hobbits are a race of small, plump people about half the size of humans. One day an old wizard named Gandalf arrives in the town that Bilbo lives and persuades him to go on an adventure with a group of thirteen militant dwarves to reclaim their treasure from a dragon named Smaug. Shortly after the group sets out, three hungry trolls capture all of them except for Gandalf. Gandalf tricks the trolls into remaining outside when the sun comes up, and the sunlight turns them to stone. The group finds weapons in the trolls camp. Gandalf and the dwarf lord Thorin take magic swords, and Bilbo takes a small sword of his own. After resting, the group somehow manages to leave Bilbo behind. Wandering through the tunnels, Bilbo finds a strange golden ring lying on the ground. He takes the ring and puts it in his pocket. When a creature named Gollum wants to eat Bilbo, he some how uses the ring he found to turn him invisible and is able to escape the creature. Bilbo eventually finds the wizard and the dwarves and they enter the mountain where the dragon is located. Bilbo talks to the sly dragon Smaug, who reveals that his armor like scales have a weak spot near his heart. The dragon is soon killed and the treasures are found. Once the adventures have ended, Bilbo and Gandalf return to Hobbiton, where Bilbo continues to live. He is no longer accepted by respect ...

Global enterprise Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Global enterprise - Essay Example The best way out was supposed to be the buying of the Asian car manufacturer, among which Mitsubishi and Nissan were considered. But as financial indices of Nissan didn't make Daimler company optimistic about it, the decision of buying 34% of Mitsubishi Company has been taken. The problems and risks of Daimler Chrysler after having bought 34% stake of Mitsubishi laid in the necessity to lock together the separate pieces of this consortium. There should have been solved the problem of cost savings and technology cross pollination between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. The benefits of the joint venture for both companies lied in sharing engines, transmissions, and other major components, which will finally reduce the costs of both participants, as well as will lead to the sharing of entire platforms which are the most expensive parts in car manufacturing. The main risks for Daimler were first of all, cultural difficulties in making the two companies work together. As one of the Daimler's managers has noted, 'when it is an Asian company and a European-American company, it is even tougher'. Another risks lied in the fact, that any investments (and buying Mitsubishi was the direct investing of Daimler) carry certain risks. Mitsubishi was the only car manufacturer in Japan, working with financial losses and getting no benefits. Thus for Mitsubishi it was a huge chance to restore its position on the market and enter other foreign markets. At the same time, Daimler Chrysler, with Mercedes-Benz being the best-selling foreign car in Japan, took only 0.8% share of Japanese market and needed to find an effective solution for expanding its activity to West Asia. In addition, in six months after the historical merge had been accomplished, Mitsubishi admitted, that it illegally concealed the customer's complaints in relation to vehicle defects on systematic basis. 3.Explain how the acquisition of 34 % and then 37 % stake of Mitsubishi cou1d help DaimlerChrysler to meet the fuel pact The purchase of 34% (and later 37%) of Mitsubishi stake by Daimler Chrysler led to the possibility for Daimler to meet the fuel pact. According to the Kyoto protocol of 1997, the main car manufacturing companies had to turn to the fuel cell production, and all Japanese companies have already had their own prototypes of ecological engines, among which Mitsubishi held strong position. Thus Daimler was able to turn to the ecologically-effective production with minimum costs. 4.Analyse, in the context of DaimlerChrysler global strategy, the following options for DaimlerChrysler regarding the objectives followed with Mitsubishi with their advantages and disadvantages: 4.1 export from the US and Germany; 4.2 licensing; 4.3 joint-venture; 4.4 wholly-owned subsidiary. From the viewpoint of the global strategies of both companies, it should be said that of course, it was becoming easier for Mitsubishi to export car details from the US and Europe, but at the same time, this was another possibility for Daimler to strengthen its positions in selling car platforms in Asia. Developing a Shared Vision - Essay Example g the healthcare industry, healthcare leaders are changing and adjusting to new measures to enable them lead the healthcare organizations they are leading. Healthcare leaders in the modern healthcare industry face a vast array of challenges, from layoffs because of reducing revenues, staff shortages, re - organization in response to merging of consolidation services, poor job satisfaction rates resulting in Turnover to poor performance outcomes leading to a reduction in Medicare Reimbursement Dollars. In the past, healthcare leaders have not faced so many issues as now. Due to these issues, healthcare leaders have resulted to certain skills, individual features and leadership features to enable them mitigate the challenges faced. As the manger of an ancillary service department at a large, 500 + bed hospital, several challenges have affected the ancillary service department. These challenges include staff shortage and layoffs due to declining revenues. This paper describes a proposal directed to staff to address the two issues. Staffs are a vital component of a healthcare’s system unit. Hence, it is important to keep them informed regarding issues that are affecting the hospital so that they are not caught off guard on mitigation measures put in place by the hospital’s management to solve the challenges. Informing staff makes them feel part of the hospital. It boosts their morale in spite of the challenges. However, they are a call to unity, cohesiveness and adaptation in order to overcome them as valuable contributors to the day-to-day running of the hospital and healthcare in the country. As you all know, both of these challenges are not unique to the hospital. They are nationwide issues. However, as a hospital, the management would like to take its own initiative to mitigate these issues. Staff shortage in

Types of Cardiovascular Disease

Types of Cardiovascular Disease Jeanette Mullen Abstract Cardiovascular disease (CVD) affects many people throughout their lives, there are some that are living with the disease and dont even know it because they dont go to the doctor, and even when they do, many dont adhere to the warnings. There are a lot of programs out there for families that take care of older adults with CVD, the problem with this is most people dont know how to access these programs. They dont know where to go or who to talk too, and because of this many people dont get the help that they need for their loved ones. The program that I would like to create is sort of like a workshop that is geared towards helping families that are caring for older adults, by providing them with a wealth of knowledge that will aid them in their journey of finding the help they need. I hope to show you through my research that many people can live longer, healthier lives if they knew more about CVD and how to protect themselves and their loved ones from getting it. Cardiovascular Disease: What You Should Know! It is important for people who have cardiovascular disease or families caring for someone with CVD to understand everything there is to know about the disease so they will be able to do what is necessary to combat the disease; my program will do just that. I would begin the workshop getting to know my audience and congratulating them on taking the first step towards a better life and by telling a true story to them in hopes that it will give them a better perspective of just how serious and real this disease is. Sometimes hearing what happened to someone else can shock a person into wanting to learn all they can so the same thing wont happen to them. Discussion Being told that your heart is only pumping at ten percent has got to be one of the hardest things to hear in your life. That was my brothers fate. He was offered a pacemaker and chose not to get it because he said since they told him its a 50/50 chance of survival, he said he would take his chances. Its sad to say that he lived another three years before suffering a massive heart attack and dying, he was 44. His fate could have been different had he listened to his doctor and changed his lifestyle. My father was in his late 50s when he was told that the only way he would live is if he received a heart transplant. He was suffering from congestive heart failure and already had three heart attacks. He had the transplant and has lived so far for 14 years. Goals My goal for this program is fairly simple. It would be free to the public, anyone regardless of gender; race or socioeconomic background would be able to attend if they choose to do so. At the end of the workshop there will be an answer and question session and there would be volunteers available to help anyone that is having a hard time understanding what do or what is being said. I would have a building that is centrally located so that it is easily accessible for people that dont have transportation and may be on the bus line. My target age for this workshop is from the young old to the oldest old but will be open to anyone interested in learning about cardiovascular disease. Types of Cardiovascular Disease Research The text by Hooyman Kiyak, states Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which include coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, are the leading cause of death among older adults (Hooyman Kiyak, 2011). There are many diseases of the cardiovascular system such as: Coronary heart disease is a condition in which blood to the heart is deficient because of narrowing or constricting of the cardiac vessels that supply it. Acute myocardial infarction results from blockage of an artery supplying blood to a portion of the heart muscle. Congestive heart failure indicates a set of symptoms related to the impaired pumping performance of the heart, so that one or more chambers of the heart do not empty adequately during the hearts contractions (Hooyman Kiyak, 2011). Risks of Cardiovascular Disease Most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by changing your diet, becoming more active, and taking all medications that is prescribed to you. Once the group you are teaching know what types of cardiovascular diseases are out there and what they actually mean, you can then tell them what risks can cause the disease and how to possibly prevent it from happening. Take diet for instance, by changing the things you consume everyday you can decrease the risk of heart disease. One scholarly article I read suggested that eliminating saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat would most likely decrease the amount of deaths in Coronary heart disease (CHD), but according the dietary guidelines it is suggested that Americans cut back on both saturated and unsaturated fats from their diet; eating lots of red meat and eggs can also be problematic. But eating a diet high in vegetables, beans, fish and poultry could significantly lower your risks of CHD and stroke (Yu et al,, 2016). Changing from a sedentary lifestyle to a more physical lifestyle can lower your risk of developing heart disease, such as taking a brisk walk. Another risk factor is smoking, studies in the article showed that cutting out smoking decreases your risk of CHD, and suggested that smoking cessation is more favorable, even though it can cause weight gain. All of these risks are associated with cardiovascular disease but there are times when a person is leading a healthy lifestyle and can still suffer from CVD. Genetic factors and socioeconomic factors can play a big role leading in developing the disease (Yu et al., 2016). Another article I found very interesting did a study on how Living in poorer neighborhoods with low levels of social cohesion and high rates of crime, violence, and disorder have been found to be detrimental to health as they create environments that induce stress, elevate blood pressure, and may not be conducive to healthy behaviors such as physical activity (Barber et al., 2016). This article goes hand in hand with the previous one in saying that Low socioeconomic status (SES) has also consistently been identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and people that are living in areas where it is heavily polluted have been known to be associated with the increased risk of CVD (Chi et al., 2016). Study There were a few studies done on the risk of cardiovascular disease. One study done by (Larsson and Wolk, 2016) was Potato consumption and risk of cardiovascular disease..., they stated that Potatoes is a starchy food that is something that people eat a lot of and they have a high-glycemic index and have been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The results of that study showed no evidence that potatoes posed a risk in CVD. Another study was done by (Mu et al., 2016) on Dairy fat and risk of cardiovascular disease in 3 cohorts of US adults. It is stated in this scholarly article that Saturated fat intake increases LDL cholesterol and may induce chronic inflammation, and thus may increase risk of cardiovascular disease (Mu et al., 2016). But after studying 3 cohorts it was determined that compared with an equivalent amount of energy from carbohydrates (excluding fruits and vegetables), eating dairy fats was not associated with risk of CVD (Mu et al., 2016). Statistics Throughout our text (Hooyman Kiyak, 2011), discuss many statistics reported about heart disease such as White men age 70 and older are more likely to report heart disease than their Latino or African American counterparts (p. 123). Another article talks about how 1 in 3 women at risk for CVD dont consider themselves as being candidates of heart disease even though both men and women have died from the disease and the statistics also shows that heart disease and stroke are the first and third causes of death among women in the United States (Vaid, et al., 2011). As I mentioned earlier, cigarette smoking is one of the risks of cardiovascular disease. Statistics in an article written by (Shishani, Sohn, Okada, Froelicher, 2008), says Cigarette smokers are 2 to 3 times likely to die due to smoking related cardiovascular diseases and Patients with CVD experience as much as a 50% reduction in risk of reinfarction, sudden cardiac death, and total mortality if they quit smoking ( Shishani, et al., 2008). Conclusion Even though Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, it is my hope that with the help of educating individuals dealing with the disease, they are reassured that if you change your lifestyle and the bad habits that you have, you will begin to see a change in your health and your life. My brother never changed his eating habits and he never stopped smoking, which resulted in his unfortunate death. But after three heart attacks, and after his heart transplant, my dad finally stopped smoking. As long as you have the desire to change and the tools to point you in the right direction, you too can live a healthier life. References Barber, S., Hickson, D.
